Christmas Scavenger Hunt

Christmas Scavenger Hunt Clue Generator

Tick the places in your home where a card can hide. You get a chain of clues that leads from the first card to the big gift, ready to print.

Step 1. Pick your hiding spots

Tick every place where a card could go. You need one spot for each clue, and the last one is where the big gift waits.

    Step 2. Who is playing?
    Step 3. Build the chain

A hunt built from your own rooms

Most printable hunts give you a fixed list of clues that only work in the house of whoever wrote them. This one works the other way round. You tell it where the fridge, the piano and the front door mat are, and it writes the chain around them. Every spot has at least three hand-written clues for each age group (396 in all), so a different hunt comes out each time you press Shuffle.

Clue 1 goes in your child’s hand. It points to the first hiding spot, where the next card waits, and the trail ends at the big gift. The last page of the PDF is for you only: it lists where to hide each card.

      What a clue sounds like

Little kids get short, plain words. Kids 7 to 12 get rhymes:

      • FridgeCold air, cold air, open wide! Your next clue is waiting inside.
      • Christmas treeTinsel, lights and ornaments, too, a star on top for all to view. Look beneath the branches green; the next clue's hiding to be seen!
      • Sock drawerFuzzy, stripy, warm and bright, socks in pairs that fit just right. Open the drawer and dig around; the next clue's where the socks are found.

Teens get riddles, and adults get wordplay:

      • FridgeI light up when you open me, and then you stand there for ten minutes deciding. Go see me.
      • Christmas treeI am covered in lights, glass balls and at least one ornament made in kindergarten. Go see me.
      • FridgeChilling is my full-time job, and my little light only works when nobody is watching. Find me in the kitchen.
      • Christmas treeAn evergreen with a strong sense of style, a sticky sap problem and zero shame about sparkle. Visit it.

      Free and paid

You can build and preview any hunt before you decide anything. The free plan covers up to 5 clues for little kids and kids 7 to 12. The Full Hunt ($2.99, one time) lifts the limit and unlocks teens, adults and the office edition; the Family Pack ($4.99) adds a separate chain for each child. See pricing.

      Questions

      Is the clue generator free?

Yes. A hunt of up to 5 clues with the little-kids and kids 7 to 12 libraries is free, as a PDF or straight from the print button. Free pages carry one small line at the bottom saying where they were made. The Full Hunt ($2.99, one-time) removes the limit and adds the other age groups.

How does the clue chain work?

You tick the places where cards can hide. Clue 1 is handed to the player and points to the first hiding spot. The card hidden there points to the next spot, and so on. The last card points to the spot where the big gift waits. No spot is used twice in one chain.

Where do I hide each card?

The host answer key page tells you, card by card: “Hide card #3 in the fridge.” The cards themselves never say where they go, so players cannot peek at the answer.

Can I make the same hunt again?

Yes. Every hunt has a short hunt code. Type the same code with the same spots, age group and number of clues and you get the same chain and the same clue wording back. Press Shuffle for a new one.

Is it safe to hide cards in the oven or the fireplace?

Only when the oven is off and cool, and only when no fire has been lit and the hearth is cold. The answer key prints a reminder whenever you use one of those spots. Pick another spot if you are in any doubt, and take cards out before anyone uses the appliance.

Does it print on A4 as well as Letter?

Yes. Choose US Letter or A4, and 4, 6 or 8 cards per page. Dashed lines show where to cut.
